Follow these steps to study in Australia

Step 1: Apply to Australian University

To apply to universities or colleges in Australia you need to understand the basic requirements and know what programs and courses they have to offer. It is good to have a brief idea of the Australia student visa requirements. When choosing a university, make sure to check for its accreditation. Some common documents required are passport, language proficiency proof, any academic exam if needed, Letters of recommendation and passport sized photographs. As requirements vary by state and universities, spend good amount of time in doing its research.

Candidates need to choose a specific course or program of interest to pursue and accordingly shortlist the universities you are interested in. Usually students apply to about 7-10 universities with a few being backups. Each university has an application fee ranging between AUD $50 to $100 so be mindful of the colleges you are applying to. Fill in the application form diligently with all the required documents. Double check before submitting and then sit back until you hear from the university. Some universities may ask for interviews in addition. If accepted, an offer letter usually takes a few working days for processing.

Step 2: Proof of Sufficient Funds

Upon receiving an offer letter from the desired university/ college; you will need to provide proof of sufficient funds or a scholarship letter if you have one which indicated you will eb able to cover cost of tuition, travel and other living expenses.

If you happen to have dependents (such as spouse or children) who will be travelling to Australia with you, then you will need to provide evidence of being able to cover their living costs as well.

Depending on the university or college, you may need to submit the proof of sufficient funds at the time of applying for an offer letter.

Step 3: Payment and Confirmation of Enrollment

After you get an approval from the college on your proof of funds, you will need to pay the tuition fees for six months which is the usual scenario for Australian colleges and is also mentioned in the offer letter by the college. Additionally, you will also pay ELICOS (if applicable) and OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover) cost.

After this, you will receive a confirmation of Enrollment (COE) via email. It indicates that you can now enroll in a course and are eligible to apply for the Australian student visa. The course start date, total course fees and the total duration of course will also be mentioned in the email.

Step 4: Medical Examination

When you get an approval for the Australia student visa, you will have to take a medical examination by one of the doctors approved by Immigration of Australia. 

Step 5: Visa Application

You will need to create an account on the Australia immigration website https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-finder/study and fill a visa application form online. You will need to upload the below documents: Statement of Purpose (SOP), Copy of passport, IELTS score card, COE(s), all academic documents, work experience (If any), passport sized photograph, Sponsor’s Id proof, their occupation proof, and financial documents. Once you have uploaded all the required documents, pay for the visa application fee and submit the Visa Application. Your student visa will be valid for the duration of your studies.
