What to do if you lose your International Driving License in North America while visiting?
Losing your International Driver’s License while visiting North America can be extremely stressful especially when you have rented a car & which probably can be the last thing one could ever want to happen to him.
This article shares my personal experience on how I tackled the situation when I visited Miami, FL this year.
Rented a Car on your International Driver’s License & lost it in the middle of your journey in North America?
I had rented a car for three days & the incident happened on the second day near South beach- Miami FL.
Firstly, let me be very honest with you all & admit that I was extremely stressed when I came to know that I had lost my wallet that had all my bank cards, photo IDs & Driver’s License.
If you are facing a similar incident, it is natural to get stressed as you are not allowed to drive your rented vehicle if you do not have a valid Driver’s license with you.
You need to return the vehicle to the rental office at least.
Here’s what you can do to tackle this situation:
Do not drive the car without Driving License
It’s tempting to drive the car without Driving License to the Car rental office as Driving License is not needed to return the vehicle.
However, driving without a valid license is a criminal offense in North America & you may face heavier penalties if you are caught by the police.
Hence, you should not take a chance to drive the car without a driving license.
You must call 911 (Universal Emergency Number) to report the incident.
You will be connected with the nearest Police department to note down the case.
Carefully depict the incident & get a case ID over the email from the Police Dept.
This Case ID allows you to drive the vehicle & that has to be presented to the police if you are asked to provide your Driver’s License.
