Why More Students Are Considering the Duolingo English Test
As the COVID-19 global pandemic continues with rising numbers worldwide, center-based testing for English Language tests such as TOEFL and IELTS has become difficult and is unavailable at a lot of locations across the globe. To combat this situation and not cause any unnecessary delay for aspiring students needing their English language proficiency proof, many universities have started considering the Duolingo English test which can be taken at the comfort of your home provided there is internet. Some universities accept the Duolingo English test score as a primary way of English language proficiency proof while other universities may have few additional terms.

Cost of the Duolingo English test is $49 USD and the advantage of taking the Duolingo test is that it does not charge you any additional amount for sending your scores to as many universities as you like.
Currently the Duolingo is primarily used for USA undergrad admissions but if you are a non-native English speaker seeking job in English speaking countries, you can use the Duolingo English test as a proficiency proof.
Duration
The Duolingo test is quite shorter compared to TOEFL and IELTS. It takes about an hour to complete the Duolingo English exam. It includes questions for reading, writing, speaking and listening blended into one exam unlike the TOEFL that has separate sections for each of these question types.
Test Scores
Duolingo test scores range between 10-160 with most institutions looking for a score above 120. This is a comprehensive score and they do not provide section wise scores like the TOEFL. Duolingo uses proctors to assure that you are abiding by their strict test rules and you are the only one giving the test as everything is recorded.
After taking the Duolingo Test
After you complete the exam, you will be notified by an email when your scores are ready. Approximately you should receive your scores in 24-48 hours after submitting your test. You can also log in to the website to check your scores.
Once you have received your scores, there is an option to send it to your desired universities from the results page itself. Bonus: There is no limit to the number of reports you can send!
